AEC Launches New Technical Webinar Series: Aluminum Extrusion Tech

First Session Scheduled for April 19 on Aluminum Extrusion Specification Standards

April 5, 2017; Wauconda, IllinoisThe Aluminum Extruders Council is launching a new series of webinars aimed at engineers and designers who wish to delve deeper into the ins and outs of aluminum extrusions. The new series, AEC Aluminum Extrusion Tech, is intended to inform and educate those with some knowledge of aluminum extrusions but who are interested in a more technical focus.

“To date, our webinars have provided an excellent overview of the aluminum extrusion process, applications, and design,” said AEC Industry Promotion Steering Committee Chair, Guy Charpentier, Marketing Director for Bonnell Aluminum in Newnan, Georgia. “This new series of webinars will supplement that initiative, delving deeper into aluminum extrusion topics; these webinars will help attendees better understand some of the processes in order to become better informed and educated customers of extrusions.”

The first one-hour webinar in the “Aluminum Extrusion Tech” webinar series is scheduled for April 19 at 2:00 p.m. EDT and is titled, “Specifying Aluminum Extrusions: Understanding the ASTM B221/B221M Standard”. The material specification standard requirements are in place to give the purchaser confidence that extruded profiles are produced to their expectations and are consistent with the same products regardless of the producer. Greg Lea, an aluminum industry veteran who is currently Regional Sales and Technical Manager for AEC member company Hydro Aluminum in Baltimore, Maryland, will provide an overview of the ASTM B221/B221M standard. He will walk through pertinent sections of the standard to help attendees better understand the ordering process for aluminum extrusions when ordering to an ASTM standard, as well as discuss what to expect from the manufacturer. Sections of the standard that will be covered include Tensile Properties, Heat Treatment and Tempers, Chemistries, Dimensional Tolerances, Certifications, Quality and more.

Registration is free; however, space is limited so those interested in attending should register as soon as possible to secure a seat. To register for this and future webinars, visit www.AEC.org/Webinars.

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), established in 1950, is an international association dedicated to advancing the effective use of aluminum extrusion in North America. AEC is committed to bringing comprehensive information about extrusion's characteristics, applications, environmental benefits, design and technology to users, product designers, engineers and the academic community. Further, AEC is focused on enhancing the ability of its members to meet the emerging demands of the market through sharing knowledge and best practices. Advocacy programs ensure that aluminum extruders, suppliers and their products remain relevant and viable in an ever-changing legislative and regulatory climate. More than 120 member companies represent primary aluminum producers and other industry suppliers in addition to aluminum extruders operating hundreds of extrusion presses in hundreds of plants worldwide.
