AEC to Host Three Aluminum Extrusion Educational Training Events This Fall

August 30, 2017; Wauconda, Illinois -- – The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), through their Business Excellence Program, provides educational events that focus on improving operations and helping members become more efficient and competitive. This fall, AEC will be holding three such educational programs: the AEC Extrusion Excellence Course, Sales & Marketing Workshop, and the Die Performance Improvement Clinic, all of which provide education and training designed to help aluminum extruders benchmark and excel. The events are open only to AEC members. For information on becoming an AEC member, visit www.AEC.org.

Extrusion Excellence Course
The AEC Extrusion Excellence Course, scheduled for October 16, 2017 at the Hilton Rosemont/Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois, is an intensive one-day program that provides instruction on the basics of the extrusion process from a fundamental engineering approach. The course, taught by Dr. Wojciech Misiolek, Director of the Institute for Metal Forming (IMF) at Lehigh University, is intended for those involved in the production of aluminum profiles that may not have had any formal training in the engineering and metallurgical aspects of the extrusion process. The curriculum is appropriate for those new to the industry as well as experienced production personnel.

Many people in the aluminum extrusion industry have not had a formal education in engineering and metallurgy as it pertains to the aluminum extrusion process. After attending this program, extrusion personnel will have a better understanding of the engineering fundamentals of the extrusion process, be better able to increase product quality and extrusion productivity, and offer better assistance to their customers. Topics in the course include Aluminum Billet Metallurgy, Extrudability, Metal Flow Analysis, Extrusion Dies, Quality Assurance and Current Technological Developments. The program is appropriate for extrusion managers, production supervisors, die shop managers, process engineers and engineering staff and others on the aluminum extrusion production line.

Sales & Marketing Workshop
The Sales & Marketing Workshop is a two-day event designed to increase sales, productivity and profitability for aluminum extruders, scheduled for October 17 and 18, 2017 at the Hilton Rosemont/Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois. After receiving high praise from attendees for the inaugural event in 2015, AEC is offering the 2017 Sales & Marketing Workshop with sessions specifically focused on sales and marketing for the aluminum extrusion industry. The program features one day of educational sessions and a second day that features a sales training program. “This is a great opportunity for aluminum extruders to get their sales teams up to speed on the factors that affect the industry,” said Jeff Henderson, AEC President. “This workshop provides aluminum extrusion-specific data and information to inform and train industry sales personnel on sales and marketing tactics, improve profitability and develop a company-specific strategic marketing plan.”

Day one features three sections that include multiple sessions on that topic. Session I: Extrusion Markets will cover the current dynamics in the aluminum and aluminum extrusion markets, including a look at the demand and supply side and the current competitive landscape as a foundation for addressing sales and marketing challenges going forward. The aluminum extrusion Fair Trade case against China will also be covered with an update on current issues and a look at circumvention. Session II: Market Strategies will outline how extruders can develop a strategic offering for the markets and customers they serve, and Session III: Account Strategies provides guidance on customer segmentation, improving profitability and customer support tactics.

Day two features a sales training program from author and sales consultant Jeffrey Fox, founder of Fox & Company. In his session, “How to be a Rainmaker”, Fox will offer tips and strategies on how to develop a dollarized value proposition to overcome the price objection and shorten the sales cycle. Fox, a seasoned sales professional, will review the selling rules of “Rainmakers”, the sales professionals that write all of the premium-priced business and make the most money.

Die Performance Improvement Clinic
On November 7 and 8, 2017 AEC will hold its highly interactive Die Performance Improvement Clinic at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. “This is one of the Council’s most popular training events because of the hands-on nature of the program and the level of industry knowledge exchange that occurs,” said Henderson.

The Die Clinic consists of a general session and seven breakout sessions on aluminum extrusion die-related issues. The breakout sessions include four in-depth workshops and three problem-solving stations that focus on a different set of challenges that die professionals face every day. Workshop topics include the effects of die surface treatments on extrusion finish, the evolution of die making and the impact on die correction, external factors of the press, billet, container, die stack, etc. and when “not to correct the die”, and an in-depth look at design modification to achieve optimum die and press performance. At the three problem-solving stations, attendees will see and discuss actual case studies that address real-life issues such as pocket correction, multi-void hollow dies, incoming die inspection, and more. Proper die correction techniques will also be addressed.

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), established in 1950, is an international association dedicated to advancing the effective use of aluminum extrusion in North America. AEC is committed to bringing comprehensive information about extrusion's characteristics, applications, environmental benefits, design and technology to users, product designers, engineers and the academic community. Further, AEC is focused on enhancing the ability of its members to meet the emerging demands of the market through sharing knowledge and best practices. Advocacy programs ensure that aluminum extruders, suppliers and their products remain relevant and viable in an ever-changing legislative and regulatory climate. More than 120 member companies represent primary aluminum producers and other industry suppliers in addition to aluminum extruders operating hundreds of extrusion presses in hundreds of plants worldwide.
