Wauconda, IL - Two dedicated volunteers were acknowledged by the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) for their outstanding service to the aluminum extrusion industry. The Volunteer of the Year and Distinguished Service awards were presented during the AEC 2010 Annual Meeting & Leadership Conference held last March in Tucson, Arizona. Todd Boyer, Director of Sales & Marketing for Mid-States Aluminum Corp. in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, was awarded the 2010 Volunteer of the Year award. Boyer, a longtime member of the AEC Marketing Committee, has been the driving force behind a number of the Council’s projects that promote aluminum extrusion. He led the development of the Applications Section of the new Aluminum Extrusion Manual, 4th Edition currently in production and, as a member of the AEC Website Task Force, provided guidance for the successful redesign of the AEC website. Boyer has held a variety of positions, including Quality Control Manager, Sales Engineering Coordinator, New Business Development Manager, and his current position in sales and marketing, all with Mid-States Aluminum Corp. In 2009, Boyer hosted a tour of the Mid-States facility for AEC staff members in order to offer additional insights into the aluminum extrusion, finishing, and fabrication processes. Boyer was not able to attend the ceremony due to prior commitments and was surprised upon hearing the news that he won the Volunteer of the Year Award. “It was unbelievable; I was blown away,” said Boyer. “It is an honor having been chosen for this award. I enjoy being able to work on a team with fellow professionals in the industry who are all working together toward a common goal. That’s the fun part.”
Robert Peacock Receives Distinguished Service Award Among his many contributions to the industry and to the Council, Peacock served as AEC Marketing Committee Chairman from 2000 to 2003, was involved in the establishment of the Council’s successful Keep Aluminum Windows (KAW) program, which has realized some significant accomplishments in the areas of codes and standards, was on the leadership team that brought the Design Competition back to the Aluminum Extruders Council in 2000, and served as a founding Board member for the ET Foundation, the educational organization of the aluminum extrusion industry, beginning in 2002. During that period, Peacock maintained his leadership role as ET Seminar Committee Chair from 1997 to 2002 and helped steer a successful ET 2000. Currently he serves as Immediate Past Chair of the ET Seminar Committee and will be integrally involved in helping to develop ET ’12, the next iteration of the aluminum extrusion industry’s most respected technical conference, the Extrusion Technology (ET) Seminar. As President of Almag Aluminum, Peacock supports AEC by encouraging his staff to participate through committee service, and by attending Council meetings and other events, such as International Technology Exchange tours. “Bob is a fine example of a consummate leader, and an outstanding, dedicated, and committed volunteer. He has contributed greatly to the advancement of the Council and the aluminum extrusion industry,” said Schabel. “It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by my peers and to be added to a list of recipients that includes a number of individuals who have done so much for both the AEC and the aluminum extrusion industry over many years,” said Peacock. “Almag has benefitted a great deal, and has remained successful in the extrusion industry for over 50 years, in large part as a result of our involvement in the AEC.” The Aluminum Extruders Council, established in 1950, is an international association dedicated to helping manufacturers, engineers, architects, and others to discover why aluminum extrusion is the better material process for better products. Specialized conferences, seminars, workshops, and meetings throughout the year provide an outlet where AEC members can confront and address today’s challenges. The Council’s membership includes companies representing primary aluminum producers and other industry suppliers in addition to aluminum extruders operating hundreds of extrusion presses in hundreds of plants worldwide; these are the world’s leading manufacturers of extruded aluminum profiles—The Shapemakers.
