One of AEC’s goals is to see students graduate from the appropriate programs with at least a fundamental knowledge of aluminum extrusion, as well an understanding of the benefits of, and how to design with, aluminum extrusions. This one-hour webinar created for DESIGN AND ENGINEERING INSTRUCTORS will cover the attributes of extruded aluminum that make it a material of promise for product designers and engineers, and then focus on the “practicalities” of extrusion design.

Extruded aluminum components and assemblies are increasingly used in a myriad of applications. Whether for automotive components, building elements, alternative energy mountings, personal electronics, heat sinks, medical devices or a host of other applications, extrusions offer superb design flexibility, a high degree of cost-saving functionality, unique aesthetic opportunities and environmental attributes.

Yet for all of the advantages of this versatile material, there is a knowledge gap. Most students graduate from engineering and design programs having learned very little information about the aluminum extrusion process, applications, and the unique benefits and key considerations for designing with extrusions. Therefore, students graduate with little or no understanding of this versatile material process.

This one-hour webinar, created for design and engineering instructors and their students, will cover the attributes of extruded aluminum that make it a material of promise for product designers and engineers, and then focus on the “practicalities” of extrusion design: alloy selection, “best practice” in profile design, and structural evaluation.
