The Significance of Mandrel Bearing Undercut (Shear Edge) for Productivity and Shape Control in Hollow Dies
April 26, 2017

2:30 p.m. EDT (1:30 p.m. CDT)

Speakers: Speakers: Rick Liscomb, ETS Dies; Richard Dickson, Hydro Aluminum; Chris Jowett, Rio Tinto Aluminium

The next in the series of webinars on die design will explore the effects of the mandrel undercut (shear edge) on metal flow, die pressure (ease of push) and on die deflection/strength. Design guidelines will be developed for the use of undercut (shear edge) to optimize the effect on productivity, profile shape and die face pressure. Manufacturing guidelines will also be developed to ensure that die life is not adversely impacted by the application of large mandrel undercuts (shear edge).
