European Aluminium Association responds to Trump's aluminum tariff announcement

Decisive actions need to be taken to tackle the unprecedented U.S. import measure on aluminum, according to European Aluminium, the trade association in Europe. The association calls on the European Commission and EU Member States to protect their aluminum industry following the announcement last week that President Trump suggests a 10% tariff on all aluminum imports regardless of the country. 

"European aluminium exports to the U.S., in view of both their quantity and characteristics, do not pose any threat to US national security," said Gerd Goetz, Director General of European Aluminium.  He went on to note that the blanket tariff does nothing to address the "root cause of of the main challenges faced by the aluminium industry today: the unsustainable and steady increase of aluminium overcapacities in China."
