AEC Joins LIFT - Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow
AEC recently became a member of LIFT - Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow, a Detroit based public/private partnership focused on advancing metals technology for transportation lightweighting. LIFT is one of 14 Manufacturing USA Institutes, private/public partnerships launched in recent years to advance U.S. manufacturing. With 5-year funding of $150 million ($70M public, $80M private), LIFT funds metals development programs, conducts extensive workforce development at the high school, community college and university levels, and operates an extrusion/fabrication facility for development, prototype and small scale production use.
In joining LIFT, AEC joins with nearly 100 corporate, university, and association members collaborating on metals properties, processing and application developments for use in all sectors of the transportation industry – from autos to aircraft to ag equipment.
“Joining LIFT gives AEC an important seat at the table with the organizations who are creating the next technologies for lightweighting using metal,” noted Jeff Henderson, AEC President. “Our members will have visibility of coming technologies, the opportunity to work on development projects, and AEC will have the ability to launch our own development initiative. In addition, there is a great fit between LIFT’s workforce development activities and our own Academic Engagement initiative.”
