Craig Werner Receives Maurice H. Roberts Award of Excellence at ET ’16
May 17, 2016; Wauconda, Illinois – The prestigious Maurice H. Roberts Award of Excellence was presented to current ET Seminar Committee Chairman Craig Werner on May 4, 2016 during the Eleventh International Aluminum Extrusion Technology Seminar—ET ’16 in Chicago. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the ET Seminar Committee, given to an aluminum extrusion industry professional who has demonstrated outstanding qualities that contribute to the advancement of the industry. Those traits include the individual making an industry impact, being a benevolent teacher, making a personal contribution, being a highly qualified individual, and exhibiting leadership qualities. Werner is a past chairman of the Aluminum Extruders Council, a chairman of a number of AEC committees, including the Business Excellence Committee, and the chairman of the ET Seminar Committee.
Werner was recognized for displaying a wealth of the qualifying traits. His many technical papers presented at past ET Seminars and in publications provided important best practices guidance to the extrusion industry, explained ET Seminar Committee Vice Chairman Jim Sanderson. Werner developed extensive Academic Outreach presentations that the Aluminum Extruders Council uses to this day, developed industry curriculum, including the AEC Process Optimization Workshop, and he currently is helping to develop the AEC Academy continuing education program. He made significant contributions to the industry’s knowledge base in the areas of extrusion technology, use of mathematical analysis to improve operations, and the development of solar technology employing aluminum extrusions. Werner is a staunch supporter of the aluminum extrusion industry and the Aluminum Extruders Council.
“While he was an industry consultant, he selflessly donated his time to the Aluminum Extruders Council to help develop the AEC’s fledgling Industry Promotion efforts and Business Excellence programs,” said Sanderson, a Maurice H. Roberts Award of Excellence recipient himself.
ET Seminar Committee Chairman Emeritus Bob Werner noted, “His extensive experience has enabled Craig to have relatively unique skills possessed by few others in the industry. He is always willing to teach and share his knowledge with others, and his creativity continues to benefit the industry.”
Accepting the award, Werner used his time at the podium to thank the committee and urged the extrusion industry to step up efforts to educate students, designers, and engineers in aluminum extrusion processes and design to ensure the future of the industry.
About the Maurice H. Roberts Award of Excellence
The namesake of this high honor, Maurice Roberts, was a pioneer in the aluminum extrusion industry and one of the founders of the International Aluminum Extrusion Technology Seminars – also known as the ET Seminars. Established by the ET Seminar Committee in 1984, the Maurice H. Roberts Award of Excellence has been presented six times at the past ten ET Seminars, given to a professional whose accomplishments and contributions to the aluminum extrusion industry have been deemed exceptional. The first recipient was Maurice Roberts to reflect his outstanding contributions to the entire aluminum extrusion industry. Other recipients of the Maurice H. Roberts Award include Chairman Emeritus of the ET Seminar Committee Robert “Bob” Werner, Werner Company (1988); Roy Fellom, Light Metal Age (1992); Ivar Hafsett, Norsk Hydro (1996); Donn Sanford, Aluminum Extruders Council (2000) and James Sanderson, Kaiser Aluminum (2012).
About the ET Seminars
The International Aluminum Extrusion Technology Seminar and Exposition - ET - is the world's longest-running educational event devoted to all facets of the aluminum extrusion industry, including aluminum profile production, die design and technology, metallurgy, equipment, and product applications. The ET Seminars attract industry professionals from around the world, including nearly 50 countries.
About the ET Foundation
The Extrusion Technology for Aluminum Profiles Foundation has been established for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes to develop, promote, provide, and fund education and research related to aluminum extrusion processes and technologies. For more information, contact the ET Foundation firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.etfoundation.org.
The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) is a progressive trade association dedicated to advancing the effective use of aluminum extrusion in North America. AEC is committed to bringing comprehensive information about extrusion's characteristics, applications, environmental benefits, design and technology to users, product designers, engineers and the academic community. Further, AEC is focused on enhancing the ability of its members to meet the emerging demands of the market through sharing knowledge and best practices.
