ET '16 Recap

The worldwide aluminum extrusion industry gathered in Chicago, May 2 – 6, 2016, for the Eleventh International Aluminum Extrusion Technology Seminar & Exposition – ET ’16. More than 1,350 industry professionals from 47 countries attended the event over five days, which included two days of in-conjunction industry workshops, three days of technical sessions, the ET Expo and more.  ET ’16 in Chicago attracted more attendees than at past events in Florida boasting a nearly 15% increase in attendance over ET ’12 in Miami. ET ’16 exceeded expectations on all levels with the best attendance since ET 2000, an impressive 124 technical papers presented, and a record number of exhibitors with 123 companies occupying nearly 17,000 square feet of exhibit space.

During the General Session on Wednesday, May 4, awards were presented to a number of recipients for outstanding contributions. The first award of the event was presented to Rio Tinto Aluminium for the company’s “significant contribution and positive impact on the worldwide aluminum industry” throughout the 47-year-history of ET Seminars. Keynote speaker, Gervais Jacques accepted the award on behalf of the company, which has submitted more than 80 ET technical papers over the years, many of which were award-winners.

The Best Papers of ET ’16 were presented to authors at the General Session on May 4. The award-winning papers were selected by members of the ET Seminar Committee comprised of a team of experts within the aluminum extrusion industry. Awards were presented in each of the 6 technical tracks, as well as to the overall best paper of ET '16. Details and photos here…

In addition, ET Seminar Committee Chairman Craig Werner received the prestigious Maurice H. Roberts Award of Excellence. One of the highlights of ET'16 was the Showcase.  The ET Showcase featured a variety of applications featuring aluminum extrusions from companies around the world, including winners of the Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition (www.ETFdesign.org). A YouTube video playlist highlighting some of the displays in the ET Showcase was also featured. Check out the playlist here.

Opportunities to connect and catch up at ET ’16 were plentiful. From the Welcome Reception held in the Hyatt Regency Chicago’s American Craft Bar on Tuesday and the Reception held in the ET Expo on Wednesday, to more informal ways to connect such as the ET ’16 Cubs Game Outing and the ET ’16 smartphone app, ET delegates made great use of networking time in Chicago.
