Members of Congress, prompted by urging from the Beer Institute, have called for an investigation into the Midwest Premium. The Midwestern Transactional Premium (MWTP) reference price is charged to all end users of aluminum in the U.S., and is intended to account for the cost of storage and transportation of aluminum to end users, the statement says.

The lawmakers asked Sessions to "examine the issue of possible irregularities"  that have appeared to have "inappropriately inflated the price of aluminum". They also suggested that Sessions look into whether the irregularities raise antitrust concerns.
